Financial Bailout Shifting To Main Street?

Last week, when asking Congress for the next installment of bailout cash, Obama specifically mentioned helping out small businesses … which should make Congress happy since that’s what they’ve been asking for all along.

“In an interview with NPR's Renee Montagne on Tuesday, (Barney) Frank (D-MA, House financial services chairman) said Congress wants more of the federal relief money to be loaned to ordinary customers. ‘We want help for student loans…and we want consumer credit and small business credit,’ he said. ‘If those aren't done, then the administration has to specifically explain why [the banks] won't do it.’"

Strangely, even though this is the government we’re talking about, it sounds like everyone is beginning to agree. Obama wants “‘strict and sensible conditions’ on executive compensation until tax money is repaid, and … more money (for) community banks and small businesses…”

Of course, it remains to be seen if the funds can trickle down to hardworking but beleaguered small businesses rather that flowing directly into the coffers of the irresponsible executives who pushed us all down this unhappy path …
