Entrepreneurs Can Lead Us Out of the Crisis
Wednesday, March 04,2009 09:51 PM
This is the most forward-thinking piece I have read since this whole crisis became a CRISIS. It basically says that the strategy being presented to pull us out of this thing is wrong and "worse, that the weapons it is using to fight the recession are obsolete." Fixing the old economy, the authors say, won't be enough. It's time to think differently because, as one of the authors has titled their soon-to-be-released-book, "the future arrived yesterday." Their solution is to let the entrepreneurs do it because only they "have the flexibility, the freedom and the risk-everything ambition to find the path back to prosperity in a rapidly changing, technology-driven global economy." They outline seven things that would allow this to happen, my favorite of which is:
Convene a presidential summit on entrepreneurship and small business. The last president to do so was Ronald Reagan in 1982, and the chief topic was the impact of the fax machine. We are long overdue. There is no better time for President Obama to listen to the folks who hold the fate of this economy in their hands.
The fax machine? I think the President who emailed me and countless other supporters right before he took the stage to give his acceptance speech could handle this, don't you? Read the full (free wsj.com) opinion piece here: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123544318435655825.html
