You have a great idea that you think you could turn into a full-fledged business. So what are you waiting for? A better economy? In Time Magazine this week, I saw a poll that says that 58% of us think it will take two or more years before the economy starts to recover. The time is now and the resources are available. A recent article in US News and World Report outlines dozens of resources to help you start your start up ... even in this economy.
A few snippits:
Score, a nonprofit that provides free online and in-person mentoring via a national counseling force, will match you up to a relevant resource (a working or retired business owner) who can help with your specific needs and business or market. They're also commited to providing "as many follow-up appointments as necessary." Cool.
Small Business Development Centers can help with financials, marketing, production, organization, engineering and technical problems, and feasibility studies. "Every startup needs three things," says Kristin Johnson, director of the Northern California SBDC network. "A lawyer, an accountant and an SBDC advisor."
The US Chamber Small Business Center is an arm of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce which provides comprehensive startup assistance via web-based tools and resources.
And finally, the good old SBA. Via the web and district offices, the SBA offers an array of tools and resources to help new and aspiring business owners succeed.
